Justice for All: Chandravati’s Courageous Stand Against Violence and Oppression

Growing up in a large extended family with six sisters and one brother, Chandravati had not yet encountered violence or discord until the unthinkable happened. At a young age, she witnessed her father’s brutal murder at the hands of local criminals. This tragic event abruptly ended her carefree childhood and plunged her and her siblings into financial instability. To help support her family, at the age of nine, Chandravati took on the gruelling task of working in a bidi factory. Regarded as a burden, Chandravati was eventually married off at the age of 13 into a well-off family. For a while, Chandravati managed to forget about her past life. But when she visited her sister in Patela in 2011, she met Anju, whose land had been unlawfully seized by local criminals. Hearing Anju’s story reignited Chandravati’s memories of the injustices and discrimination faced by women, bringing restlessness to her heart. Determined to fight for Anju against the criminals, Chandravati embarked on a long and arduous legal battle to secure her rights. During her journey, she encountered a life-threatening situation when she was assaulted by criminals, leading to a three-month hospitalization. However, she emerged from this ordeal and continued her mission of supporting and empowering women. In the end, she emerged victorious, successfully standing up against the perpetrators. Chandravati has directly impacted the lives of approximately 5,350 individuals and indirectly influenced more than 36,000. She is a beacon of hope and strength for the communities she operates in.
