Healthcare Initiatives in Tamil Nadu

The Primary Health Care (PHC) system is crucial in healthcare delivery, especially in resource-constrained settings. PHCs serve as the first point of contact, providing preventive care, maternal and child health services, and managing chronic conditions. With increasing demand due to population growth and the burden of non-communicable diseases, PHCs must be adequately equipped to deliver comprehensive and quality care. To address these needs, the CII Foundation initiated the enhancement and development of Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs) in Tamil Nadu.

About the Initiative

CII Foundation along with CII worked closely with the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine - Tiruvallur Health Unit, Tamil Nadu, to enhance public health facilities. CII provided different medical equipment to 17 health facilities across six blocks of Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. The objective of the program was to enhance healthcare access, improve quality of service delivery, and facilitate the screening and management of high-risk pregnancies, curative care of newborns, and early diagnosis and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Key Interventions

Provision of Medical Equipment

Supplying diagnostic equipment, maternal and child health care equipment, and tools for the preventive and curative care of various diseases. This includes the early diagnosis and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)

Improved Maternal Care

Providing quality antenatal care (ANC), managing high-risk pregnancies, improving care during delivery and C-sections, and enhancing post-natal care

Enhancement of Diagnostic and Treatment Facilities

Improving early screening, diagnostic, and treatment capabilities. These advancements will revolutionize healthcare delivery, ensuring that every citizen has access to quality medical services, irrespective of their socio-economic background

Impact

Reduced maternal mortality, infant and child mortality rate. Early detection and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
