In a quick response to the floods, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) set up a Special Task Force for the Relief and Rehabilitation efforts in the state. The CII Task Force under the Chairmanship of Mr Kris Gopalakrishnan, Past President, CII & Co-Founder, Infosys Ltd worked out relief measures for the victims in the flood devastated state in coordination with the State Government and the District Administrations.

Emergency Response Centres were set up in the CII offices in Kochi, Trivandrum and Chennai to coordinate and facilitate the efforts. CII remained in constant touch with various Government Agencies and Local Authorities to assess the situation and initiate most urgent relief operations in the affected areas.

CII provided providing basic necessities to the affected people including food items, medicines, dry rations, utility items, toiletries, packaged drinking water, cloth, bed sheets etc.

Post the immediate relief to the flood victims, the efforts are being undertaken to provide strategic long-term rehabilitation support. MoUs have been institutionalised with the state departments of health and education. Severely dilapidated education and health facilities in Ernakulum have been identified for restoration in consultation with the state government,which will directly reach out to over 5 lakh beneficiaries annually.

The restoration is underway with the vision of building structural resilience and enabling green, energy efficient infrastructure. Some of the features in the restored buildings include integrating disaster risk reduction with low carbon energy use, water conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable consumption of resources.

Improving access to healthcare, building capacities of healthcare workers through better infrastructure and enabling a disaster resilient and healthy environment remain at the heart of the initiative.
